SHS Marching Band Begins Competition Season with a Winning Night in Cupertino!
SMB thanks Susan Hannibal, SHS Marching Band Liaison, for this article -
This marching season is looking like a winner! The Saratoga Marching Band and Guard Visual Ensemble strutted their stuff at their first competition of the year, winning several first place awards at the 38th Annual Cupertino Tournament of Bands competition on Saturday, October 11th.
Naturally, the freshmen were a bit nervous as they entered the field to perform. They stared wide-eyed, up at the sea of red in the stands to see over 120 parents, family, and friends cheering them on. They were allowed to enjoy the admiration for a few moments before being snapped back into focus by Mr. Boitz. After the show Mr. Boitz expressed what so many of us feel... That it's really all about the sense of community and support that this experience gives to our students.
Mr. Boitz wants to thank all the parent volunteers who make the competition days run like clockwork, from the uniform moms and chaperones to the truck-driving dads and parents who help prepare and serve the excellent dinner under the direction of Jenette Wheelwright. He extends special thanks to Ron Martin for his tireless work designing and building “mirrored” props to dramatize the “Mirror Images” show. Unfortunately, the strong winds on Saturday prevented their use. Look for them to debut this weekend in Gilroy .
Hope to see you all on October 18th in Gilroy !
